Hi. What’s your name? How are you? How’s your life?
I’m Allyson (you can call me Ally), the person behind this thing you’re clicking around on. Here’s a little about me.
I grew up in Amherst, Wisconsin. It’s a little town of about a thousand people that sits on the Tomorrow River, smack in the middle of the state. For the last year or so, I’ve worked as a barista at a coffeehouse and restaurant called The Landmark, and last May, I graduated as co-valedictorian from Amherst High with a class of 90 other kids. Three months later, I’m here, starting my freshman year at St. Norbert College, where I hold a place in the Honors Program and work an on-campus job as a research fellow (more on that here).
Maybe you’re wondering, “Ally, what exactly do you want to do four years from now that justifies your ridiculously expensive liberal arts education?” Well, I’ll tell you that I spent my whole senior year of high school thinking I wanted to be a psychology and English double-major, but now? Now I’m liking the sound of ‘Designer & Photographer,’ but I’m still not really sure. That’s okay, though. I don’t yet know what I want to become when I grow up, but I do know who I am, and I know who I want to become.
I live for soft, sad music and good conversation. For witty, kind friends and for moving novels. For shadows that steal the breath from my lungs and for emotion so raw it brings tears to my eyes. For dawn and for dusk, for whatever comes next––for being human. The people I most admire are warm, thoughtful, and selfless, so that’s who I’ve decided I want to be. And this thing right here is where I’m going to document the process of becoming that person. So really all I’ve got to say is, welcome aboard. And I hope you enjoy your stay.
